Hi. My name is Vicki Greene. I currently live in Oceanside, CA. I have been quilting for 46 years and making dolls for ten. My quilt fabric space is overflowing and escaping to other parts of the house. And, my doll notions are rapidly approaching the same level. Lots of pins and needles all around. Step carefully when you come to visit.

On a trip to Park City, Utah, in 1975, I fell in love with a quilt in a small gallery. It was too expensive for me to purchase, so I began my love affair with making and collecting quilts. I went home and made my first quilt with no directions and no instructions. And, made every possible mistake. That quilt went off to college with a friend’s daughter and has never been seen again.

After the bicentennial celebration in 1976, quilt books and quilt teachers seemed to multiply and I finally learned a bit about my new hobby. I began collecting fabric and now have several overflowing closets filled to the brim. With the need to use up some fabric, so I could buy more, I have made over 250 quilts, large and small. The journey began with traditional bed quilts and then branched out to smaller wall hanging art quilts. The smaller format allows for more and new ideas.

After so many years of quilting, I needed a change. With the same love of fabric, I have begun making whimsical cloth dolls. It’s wonderful fun making them and figuring out how to showcase the character. These are not children’s dolls, but rather keepsakes for the adult collector to hang on the wall. I got started on the doll making  journey when a gallery owner came to  look at my quilts but chose one of my dolls instead. She wanted to carry the dolls in her gallery because she already had too many quilts in the shop.

I love using lots of color to brighten my day and yours as well. I promise a doll will make you smile.  You are allowed to talk to your doll; don't be concerned unless they answer back.
I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy making them.  Look around and if you are ever out here in CA, come for a visit.
